Forecasting Excellence for your tomorrow.

With a hot and humid airmass in place across the region, there will be a risk for severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours on Tuesday.

Thunderstorms will begin moving across the area during the afternoon hours, and some of these thunderstorms may become severe. The greatest risk for severe weather will be for areas near Lake Simcoe, such as Alliston, Angus, Barrie, Bradford, Collingwood, Coldwater, Orillia, Port Severn, Washago and Wasaga Beach.

If thunderstorms organize and become severe, hazards are expected to include rainfall of 20 to 40 millimetres, the risk for an isolated tornado, wind gusts up to 100 km/h, and hail 3 to 4 centimetres in diameter. The greatest risk for an isolated tornado will be within the Moderate risk area, however it remains possible within the Elevated risk area. There will be a moderate risk for flooding.

The risk for severe weather and the associated hazards will become less further east, such as Peterborough, Kingston and Ottawa. Torrential downpours and strong wind gusts are still possible, however.

Stay tuned for further updates, including watches and warnings as they are issued from Environment Canada.
